New Britain - Mayor Erin Stewart announced today, that The City of New Britain’s Local Prevention Council is being awarded a Drug Free Communities (DFC) grant from the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The grant is in the amount of $1.2 million and will be awarded to the City of New Britain annually for the next ten years ($125,000 per year). The DFC program, created in 1997, provides grants to community coalitions to strengthen the infrastructure among local partners as a way to create and sustain a reduction in local youth substance use. New Britain is amongst only 700 communities across the country that will be awarded this grant.

NEW BRITAIN – Mayor Erin Stewart announced today, a sewer testing notice to City of New Britain residents. Over the past few weeks, Comprehensive Environmental Inc. (CEI) has been doing house inspections in select areas of the City as part of an ongoing sewer study. The next phase of the study involves the use of non-toxic smoke testing for the purpose of locating sources of storm water inflow to the sanitary sewer system. The study will attempt to locate direct and indirect connections from sources like catch basins, roof drains, broken sewer pipes, etc. The smoke testing will be done by Martinez Couch & Associates with a CEI representative assisting the team. The testing will take place on Thursday, October 22nd, 2020.
