Mayor Erin E. Stewart, the New Britain Parks and Recreation Commission, and the New Britain Veterans Commission announced today that the Volunteers, the premier touring show band of the United States Army Field Band from Washington D.C., will be performing a concert to honor all Veterans and members of the military both past and present at Trinity-on-Main located at 69 Main Street in New Britain on Saturday, March 29, 2014, beginning at 7:00 p.m. This talented and entertaining group highlights an impressive array of songs from patriotic and rhythm and blues to rock and pop music.

“The mission of the United States Army Field Band is to carry into the grassroots of our country the story of our magnificent Army,” explained tour coordinator Sergeant First Class Michelle Laska.  “In performances across America and throughout the world, the men and woman of this organization take great pride in reflecting the excellence of all our nation’s soldiers.”

This will be the third time since 2009 that The Volunteers will play in New Britain and the Parks and Recreation Department along with Trinity on Main are excited to have the opportunity to host this special event and welcome the Band back to our City.  “We have been fortunate to see a lot of great acts in New Britain over the years, but this concert promises to be a very exciting performance by a group that has toured this great country for over 32 years now,” said Parks and Recreation Director Bill DeMaio.

Since its inception in 1981, The Volunteers have performed for millions of listeners in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, Kuwait, and Iraq. Electrifying performances have included those at Mardi Gras in New Orleans, the Indianapolis 500, Nashville Now, the Calgary Stampede, Summerfest, Country USA, and the AAA 400 at the Dover International Speedway as well as those at sporting events for the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, Florida Marlins, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Baltimore Orioles. Their annual support of the Army All American Marching Band gives them the opportunity to work with high school musicians. The Volunteers tour more than 100 days each year, bringing a powerful message of patriotism and support to communities large and small. Its members are passionate about representing their fellow Soldiers through music.

The Band’s New Britain concert will be one of only four appearances in Connecticut. Their Spring 2014 Tour also has them making stops in Pennsylvania, New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, and New Jersey.
