MAYOR WAIVES DOWNTOWN PARKING FEES FOR REMAINDER OF THEHOLIDAY SHOPPING SEASON
NEW BRITAIN—Mayor Erin E. Stewart is announcing that beginning today, Monday, Dec.18th, she will suspend parking meter fees in the downtown area to provide up to two hours offree parking for holiday shoppers. Regular meter rates and enforcement will resume at 7 a.m. onFriday, Dec. 29th.
“I encourage residents and visitors to come visit our beautifully renovated downtown and dosome holiday shopping or visit our Christmas tree in Central Park. From toys to clothing andrestaurants, we have a variety of places in the downtown district to help you find somethingunique for that someone special on your holiday list,” said Mayor Stewart. “We’re also extendingthe holiday parking to a few days after Christmas to encourage shoppers to continue supportingour local businesses.”
Meters subject to this suspension include those on Main Street, West Main Street, Arch Street,and the Badolato parking garage; the Szczesny garage is also available for holiday parking. TheBlogoslawski/courthouse parking garage will still charge normal parking rates. Handicappedparking rules will be strictly enforced during this holiday period so that persons with disabilitieswill have full access to parking in the downtown district.
City Parking agents and New Britain Police Department patrols will continue to operate in thedowntown area, enforcing the two hour limit. Vehicles left beyond the limit will be subject toticket and/or towing at the owner’s expense.
