NEW BRITAIN’S COMMISSION ON YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICES ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS AND DONATIONS FOR ANNUAL AWARD DINNER

NEW BRITAIN—The City of New Britain ‘s Community Service office is seeking nominations from the community for its annual Youth Service Awards, which will be held during a dinner at the New Britain Senior Center on May 7.

Categories for the award are “Outstanding Youth,” “Business/Corporation of the Year,” “Parent of the Year, and “Student’s Choice” for their favorite adult.

“We have so many amazing mentors and leaders in our community who deserve to be recognized for the work they are doing to improve the lives of our youth,” said Mayor Erin Stewart. “I encourage you to speak up and nominate a student who is doing incredible work or an adult who is going above and beyond to make an impact on the life of someone else.”

“In the past the awards ceremony was held as a breakfast. This year we would like to involve and recognize youth and their families without the worry of having to miss school and/or work so we will be hosting a dinner. There are a great number of people who give their time and energy to support the kids, families, and their programs within the City of New Britain and this is our chance as the City to recognize them and say ‘thank you’”! said Community Services Program Administrator, Mallory Deprey.

New this year is the “Child’s Choice” Award, which involves having a youth nominate their favorite adult (outside of a family member) who has made a significant impact on their life.

The award categories are:  Outstanding Youth  Elementary School  Middle School  High School  Business/ Corporation of the Year  Parent of the Year  Student’s Choice Award Nominations can be made by anyone by completing a nomination form available in the Community Services office (Room 301) in City Hall, or by sending in a letter to the New Britain Community Services, City Hall, 27 West Main Street, New Britain, CT 06051. Nomination narratives cannot be longer than 500 words and must be received by April 2, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.
