NEW BRITAIN FARMERS MARKET TO BEGIN JULY 1
NEW BRITAIN—Mayor Erin Stewart and the Parks and Recreation Commission announced today that the City’s farmer’s market in Central Park, now in its 5th year, will begin on July 1.
Similar to last year, the market will operate from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Wednesday, beginning July 1 and running through October 28. “Our downtown farmer’s market is a chance to get outside, shop for local and fresh produce from area farmers and grab a bite to eat,” said Mayor Erin Stewart.
So far, farmers that will be included in this year’s market are New Britain ROOTs and Dondero Farms out of Glastonbury. All farms are certified by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture. One food truck and one vendor will be highlighted each week. Follow the City’s Parks and Rec Facebook page for weekly updates, which is located at www.facebook.com/nbparksnrec.
Erik Barbieri, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services, commented: “Our downtown Farmer's Market located in beautiful Central Park has increased in popularity each year. We encourage all residents and those working in the downtown area to come and purchase the freshest fruits and vegetables around!”
Similar to last year, the market will participate in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, better known as WIC. The WIC program provides coupons to qualified individuals who can exchange them for fresh and nutritious locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Also accepted are EBT and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition checks.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing will be enforced throughout the market.
Free parking will be available on Court Street and the pocket lot between the CCSU ITDB and Police Department.
