MAYOR STEWART ANNOUNCES GRANT AWARD FOR NBFD
NEW BRITAIN – Mayor Erin Stewart announced today that the City of New Britain Fire Department is being awarded $84,567 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant for their Operations & Safety Program. This grant will go towards additional training for the New Britain Fire Department and will also cover some overtime expenses the department incurs.
“It’s always a good day when we are recognized for the outstanding work our Fire Department does,” said Mayor Stewart. “This grant will go towards expanded and certified training and will help the City offset some of the expenses we accrue because of overtime – a benefit to both the department and our taxpayers. I want to thank Chief Ortiz and Lieutenant Belanger for the amazing work they did to help write and push this grant through.”
“This FEMA grant will allow the department to send every officer through pro-board certification courses that otherwise wouldn’t be possible through conventional funding opportunities,” said Chief Ortiz. “The department has been able to train all of its members to the minimum mandated training requirements for a department of its size. This grant will ensure that our officers stay at the forefront of professional standards and industry best practices, while keeping the safety of its firefighters and residents as a priority. We thank FEMA for the award and all those who contributed to ensuring a successful grant award during the period.”
