MAYOR’S TROPHY RAISES OVER $35,000 FOR NEW BRITAIN YOUTH

NEW BRITAIN – Mayor Erin Stewart is proud to announce that The Mayor’s Trophy Charitable Golf Tournament this year was another huge success. Golfer’s from around the state gathered at Stanley Golf Course on September 25th to enjoy a relaxing day of golf, festivities, and charitable giving. All proceeds raised at the tournament directly benefited local New Britain charities.

Mayor Erin Stewart said that she was glad that with added safety measures golfers were able to enjoy this event in a safe and fun environment. “This year our main goal was to keep people safe and healthy while having fun and giving back to our community,” said Mayor Stewart. “We worked directly with our Health Department and additional city support staff to ensure that all of the proper safety precautions in place. We requested that attendees wear masks, practiced social distancing, and were conscious and considerate of one another. Our careful planning and execution of the event worked - we kept everyone safe and were still able to raise a ton of money for the kids, despite current circumstances.”

The Mayor’s Charitable Golf Tournament is an annual event held with the sole purpose of raising funds to give back to New Britain charities. The Mayor’s Trophy Charitable Golf Tournament dates back to 2004, when it began under former Mayor Timothy Stewart. This was its 16th year running, and though the COVID-19 pandemic presented challenges to planning, support for the tournament never wavered. Thanks to the tournaments generous donors, this year’s Mayor’s Charitable Trophy fund raised over $37,000.

“I love that the community comes out in such a big way to donate,” said Mayor Stewart. “Planning is already underway for next year’s tournament. Next year, I know that we will hit $40,000”
