MAYOR STEWART ANNOUNCES SUSPENDED PARKING METER FEES FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON

New Britain - Mayor Erin Stewart announced today, that beginning Friday, December 18th, 2020 she will suspend parking meter fees in New Britain’s downtown and Broad Street areas to provide up to two hours of free parking for holiday shoppers. The regular parking meter rates will resume starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, January 4, 2020. The parking meter fee suspension will be available to local residents and all visitors to The City of New Britain.

Mayor Erin Stewart encourages holiday shoppers to visit and support local downtown businesses with their patronage.

“There is no better place to shop local for the holidays than Broad Street and the Downtown District of New Britain,” said Mayor Erin Stewart. “These areas have an array of local mom & pop establishments where shoppers are bound to find everything they need for their families this holiday season. Local businesses have supported our community for years and continue to do so, even during the difficulties of this pandemic - now is our opportunity to help them. I’ve extended the free parking downtown until January 2nd for anyone who would like to do a little post-holiday shopping.”

Meters subject to this parking fee suspension include those located on Main Street, West Main Street, Arch Street, the lot on Broad Street, and those inside the Badolato and Szczesny parking garages.

The Blogoslawski/Courthouse parking garage will still charge normal parking fees. Rules for handicap parking will be strictly enforced during this holiday period in order for persons with disabilities to have full access to parking in our downtown area.

City parking authorities will continue to operate in the downtown area, enforcing the two hour parking limit. Vehicles that are left beyond the limit will be subject to ticket or towing at the owner’s expense.
